Welcome to Ms McCreesh's 6th class blog.
Dear Parents/guardians,
Happy New Year to you all. It's not the beginning of the school year that we wanted but hopefully this will only be for a limited time. The work that I will be giving the children will be a combination of book work (to be collected from school tomorrow), tasks on google classroom and seesaw as well as hands on activities and tasks. As not every child has access to a tablet/computer, I have tried to limit the number of tasks that require the use of one and tasks that do require them are for limited times for most subjects. I'd like to assure the children that they need not feel under pressure if they are unable to upload pictures of their work by the deadlines given. I just ask if there is a significant delay to just let me know via email ([email protected]) or they can leave a comment privately on google classroom. Google classroom can also be accessed on the play station or xbox if your child has one. Please see instructions on google classroom .monday_plan-_week_beginning_11th_january_2021.pdf
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for your continued support.

Hello boys and girls, I hope you had a brilliant long weekend and got out to do lots of fun things in the glorious sunshine. As the good weather will be with us for a couple more days, I have tried to put in lots of hands on activities for you to do so you can still be out in the sunshine while doing them. I am running a poetry competition also. Please have your entries in by lunchtime on Friday and I will announce the winner after that.

This month the boys and girls were learning about World War II. The activities included researching Hitler's rise to power, the holocaust, leaders of the war, they made food from ration recipes, created war posters and looked at aircrafts used during the war. Take a look at their work below.
LOCKDOWN PHOTO PROJECT- Apart but together
I have invited pupils to send me a photo of themselves that they feel defines their lockdown. It could be doing work at the table, helping out a brother or sister or another member of the family, cooking the dinner, playing in the garden etc.. It can be whatever they think will be a lasting memory of the lockdown. I will put them all together in a couple of weeks and make a picture collage that can downloaded as a 6th class keepsake and as a reminder that although we are apart we are still together. If you would prefer your child not to take part in this, please email me at [email protected]

Here is the timetable for the week ahead. There will be a prize at the end of the week for the pupil who I feel has made the best effort in their work that they have sent to me (This is across all subjects). As part of Irish, the boys and girls are being asked to send me some commands as gaeilge that they have made up for Déir o Grádaigh (Simon says) that I will then video myself doing. I hope they won't then appear on you've been framed at some stage!!!!
I am looking forward to receiving project tasks on World War II which is our big topic this month as well as the research on how covid-19 is having some positive effects on our planet.
If you are doing something nice to mark Confirmation day on Friday, please email me some photos to add onto here to share your special day. My email again is [email protected]. I have also asked the boys and girls who are making their confirmation to draw or paint a picture with the name they have chosen for their confirmation to share with the class.
Have a great week,
Ms McCreesh

Hi everyone,
I hope you had a great weekend and got out to the garden or for a walk in the sunshine.
I have some fun, practical tasks for you to do in this week's work that I hope you will enjoy.
I have still to receive tasks from last week on google classroom. If you are having any trouble uploading your work please email it to me instead at [email protected] There are also some kahoot quizzes to complete too. These are a great way for me to see how well you understood the work that you did and to see if we need to do more in a certain area. Remember also that if you are stuck on a question. I would love you to tell me so I can help you with it. I don't want anyone to be sitting at home stressing over something when I could be helping you with it.
We are beginning a new novel this week called 'Goodnight Mister Tom'. The link to read it is on the plan below. It is based during the second world war which we will be studying next month.

Gaeilge and Maths resources
Dear parents and guardians,
I have set up an account on irishhomework.ie for your child to login to to work on their oral and aural irish. The tasks should take ten minutes and look like a great way to help with conversational Irish during this time.
Click on the link to set it up https://irishhomework.ie/distance_learning/distance_learning.php?parents
The username is the pupil name followed by ______-6a-20349h. So for example tom-6a-20349h. If there is another pupil in the class with the same name, then it will be the first initial of their surname after the first name. There is a user guide when you log in to show your child how to navigate the site. I have set up a task to do so I would encourage everyone to give it a go. In addition to this, the children have all used duolingo in class and, if they haven't done so already, they can download it for free onto a tablet or mobile device and also play against their friends on to work on their Irish.
I set up an account with khan Academy (maths) a few weeks before Easter but unfortunately only a small number of pupils have used it so far. I completely understand that your child may not have access to the internet, however, it can be downloaded onto a smart phone if they have one so I would urge them to do so. There are some great video tutorials on the different topics that their work has been based on as well as short activities to complete.
As I have said to the children on Google classroom, please forward me any questions on any of the work they are finding tricky and need some support with. I want to help as much as I can. They can message on it or email me at [email protected]

New term
Welcome everyone to a new term! It is unfortunate we are not all back yet to school but let's try and stay focussed and keep in the school day routine as much as possible.
I have uploaded the upcoming week's timetable onto Google classroom as well as below. The weblinks and resources are available to download from there also. The work can be done in whatever order your child has a preference for but I would suggest trying to do work from at least four different subjects each day.
Work for Ms McCreesh’s 6th class week beginning 20th May

Red questions- Rewrite the sentences using commas where necessary.
Orange questions- Change the meaning of the sentences by adding commas.
Riddles- On google classroom, share your favourite riddles and see if you can make one up.
If you have sufficient access to a laptop, please type your answers to this week’s BTNS questions and send them to me on google classroom. If you can’t do this, don’t worry, have an adult check through your work and I will see it when we get back to school.

The great 6th class bake off challenge.
As an alternative to English and Maths for a day, I have set a baking challenge for the boys and girls. Kate and Megan have started the ball rolling with their delicious looking cupcakes while Ewan has made some yummy looking rocky road bars. Cameron and Ben have sent a photo of their baking goodies. Cameron has made a chocolate cake and Ben has made a chocolate swill roll while Imogen has mafe some chocolate chip cookies. Well done everyone!:)

Hi again everyone,
I hope you are all keeping well. As I have informed the boys and girls on google classroom, please try to stick to the general times that I have put in below for how much time to spend on each subject each day. Things like project work and posters also cover both multiple subjects (e.g. english/SESE/Religion) so don't feel that if one of these things is taking longer that your child still has to spend as much time on the other areas. If your child is getting overwhelmed or stressed by the work please reassure them that they can just do what they can and not to worrying about getting everything done. I have given a combination of book work and project work as not all children have access to the internet so they may be only able to do the book work. So please bear this in mind that I have put up extra work to give some choice and control for the children in deciding what they would like to do. I would also encourage the boys and girls to get in some exercise, and arts and crafts or even some baking or gardening. This is a stressful time for everyone so it is important to take some time out to relax and do some fun things. I am available on email at [email protected] or the children can also contact me via google classroom with any questions or queries they have. Thanks again, Ms McCreesh
